Learn Hebrew - Half Way There
I didn't get a new word today and I'm worried about how much do I remember now? Yet, I've somehow managed to get to day 15 with not much trouble. That's pretty sweet. I recited the 3 new words yesterday, but now only remember 2. So here it goes:
- shavu'a means week
- shanah means year
- luach shana means calendar
- hayom means today
- etmol means yesterday
- machar means tomorrow
- sn'niyah means second
- dakah means minute
- sha'ah means hour
- sha'on means clock....this is the one I forgot last time

- and I forgot this one. The one I forgot to remember is asah which means do. the most simplest word
My new word for day 15 is halach which means go. Achshav (now) let's see if I will remember machar.
The hard part of this challenge is not dropping it and moving on to the next one. I already have so many new ideas/

Learn Hebrew - Playing Catch Up Again
Since I have been sick, I have lost a few days now. I don't even know how many days, maybe 3 so I'm just going to take this time to play catch up...again. I'll start by reciting what I do remember and see where I left off:
- shavu'a means week
- hayom means today
- shanah means year
- luach shana means calendar
- etmol means yesterday
- machar means tomorrow
- sha'ah means hour
- sh'niyah means second
- dakah means minute
- besha'a means o'clock
- [blank] means clock....I think this is where I left off. I don't remember the word for clock
I just confirmed #11 is where I left off, and the word was sha'on. Now the words I need to catch up on are:
- yachol means can
- hish'tamesh means use
- asa means do
The hard part of learning the verbs will be knowing how to use them in the correct tense, but for now I'm just going to learn the Hebrew.

Learn Hebrew - Positive Forward Motion
Learning Hebrew with positive forward motion! Here I am at day 11 and 10 new words I have learned.
Here's what I've learned:
Here's what I've learned:
- shavu'a means week
- shanah means year
- luach shana means calendar
- hayom means today
- etmol means yesterday
- machar means tomorrow
- sh'niyah means second
- dakah means minute
- sha'ah means hour
- (drawing a blank....) besha'a means o'clock!
I got it! I promise I didn't cheat myself. So I'm just going down HebrewPod's core word lists.
Word of the day is sha'on which means clock. So far it's been a breeze, I snuck a peek at the coming words and I'll be getting into more verbs which is great, but I KNOW that will make things much harder. I only know a few verbs. However, I'm not sure how to translate those verbs into the proper tense....that's why I have my husband. He's a great study guide.

Learn Hebrew Everyday!
Today I stayed home from work and I'm sick so I'm not in the mood to make this a long post. I already recited all the words earlier to my husband, so here it goes again:
- shavu'a means week
- hayom means today
- shanah means year
- luach shana means calendar
- etmol means yesterday
- machar means tomorrow
- sh'niyah means second
- sha'ah means hour
- dakah means minute
I think I got it down, but I keep mixing up sh'niyah with sha'ah. Remembering the "ah" in sha'ah is helping me remember it means hour.
My word of the day is besha'a which means o'clock. This should be really useful, just as long as I remember all the numbers. I know echad, steim, shalosh, and that's it so far.

Learn Hebrew - Combing Words
I almost forgot about today's new word. It is the end of the day so I have less time to remember! Here's a recap of what I've learned so far:
- shavu'a - week
- hayom - today
- machar - tomrorow
- etmol - yesterday
- shanah - year
- luach shana - calendar
- sh'niyah - second
- sha'ah - hour
Hayom, I said I would start combining more hours. Yesterday I asked my husband the proper way to say: what time is it? He said "ma sha'ah" would suffice. I wasn't sure if it would work out that way, but it is actually a phrase someone would understand apparently. You can compare "ma" (what) and "ma ze" (what is it) with almost anything.
My word for today is dakah, which means minute. Sticking with the same theme will definitely help me combine words and understand more easily. Apparently, you can also say "dakah, dakah" when you are being rushed, like saying "just a minute, just a minute". Also good to know.
Again, so far so good. At this pace, I'll be able to keep up very nicely.
Ad machar....

Learn Hebrew - Shavu'a Echad
So now that I'm caught up...I'm feeling pretty good so far, but I'm not half way there yet. Just one week: shavu'a echad.
Here's a recap of the new Hebrew words I've learned:
I did have to double check whether or not the proper way of saying one week is echad shavu'a or shavu'a echad. I know my/mine (sheli) comes at the end of sentence, but I'm not sure of the rule to knowing that.
My new word is sha'ah which means hour. These related words will me start combining to form phrases and sentences, so I'll be doing more of that tomorrow!

I started my learn Hebrew yesterday, 6 days into the New Year, but that's okay. I'm a quick learner and already know a lot of Hebrew.
Here's what I remember (not cheating) from yesterday's 6 words I chose:
Ok so now my new word for today is sh'niyah which means second.
Tomorrow and going forward I will list all previous words that I remember, and hopefully by the end I can recite all 31 new words.

Learn Hebrew - 1 Month Challenge
Since I have promised myself I would learn more Hebrew and eventually become fluent, I have yet to make any larger jumps since conversion. I learned quite a bit of Hebrew during my conversion with Android apps and during classes. Then I learned more Hebrew while in Israel where my husband's family does not speak a lot of English.
So being an American Jew I get two New Years. Since I did not make any large strides since Rosh Hashanah, I decided I needed to keep myself busy with a one month Challenge so I don't continue to make excuses about not doing new things.
My goal will be to learn a new Hebrew word every day, not one that I already know - of course. And hopefully by the end of the month I will have remembered most of them. We'll see how many Hebrew words out of 31 I remember.
Since today is the 6th already, I will be playing catch up. I'm just going to head over to HebrewPod to start this off and take the first 6 words I do not know and use in a sentence.
Although some of these should be obvious to me, such as shanah and hayom, I have not used these in a sentence nor would I have been able to tell you what year and day was in Hebrew.
I will start tomorrow's post by seeing if I can even remember the English translations of what words I wanted to learn.
So until machar, and hayom is etmol - Shalom.
